IT realignment strategies
As the owner of an outsourced technology consulting company, I have obtained knowledge and experience in all types of industries, and more importantly I was depended on to support their environments. I have been successful managing insurance agencies, medical establishments, towns halls and municipalities, nationwide businesses, police departments, and multi-branch financial institutions. One of the keys to my success has been to manage the IT department as if it were a business itself. This means reducing unnecessary spending, closely monitor expenses, and view internal users as if they were customers.
I review spending, streamline processes, and restructure staff responsibilities to take advantage of their skills. In many companies IT operates independantly, but by taking the time to understand your corporate goals, I can successfully align the IT department to better support the core business needs. Some key areas for improvement are time management, documentation, automating repetitive tasks, and sharing of knowledge.
IT department motivation and team building
Technical staff tend to become comfortable in their roles and become stagnant. I have been successful in creating positive environments and corporate cultures, developing forward looking teams, and increasing department responsiveness. Some of my methods include creating a "theme" and mission statement specifically for the IT department, by getting people to leave their "comfort zone", and by breaking the mold to create a new one - one that fits the personnel. In some organizations the use of alternative methods proves to be beneficial when motivating employees. I provide leadership as well as challenge staff to bring out the best in themselves.
Technology seminars and keynote speaking
My technology seminars are interactive and encourage audience participation. No canned speeches here and no two seminars are alike! When speaking, I provide custom content tailored specifically to your needs. Topics include online safety, social networking, identify theft, and leveraging the power of technology.
Part-time CTO
This is the most aggressive approach to your business. I start with an invasive look at your IT processes
and make a comprehensive
examination of your technical environment. I
will analyze all aspects of your technology infrastructure
and identify
key areas
for improvement. As an outside consultant I am somewhat exempt from corporate politics, which provides me a clear channel to more easily bridge the gap between IT departments and senior management. By removing IT from operating "in a vacuum" great progress can be made in a relatively short amount of time. By outsourcing this role there are no high salaries and no benefits costs to absorb.
